Summary:
Homelessness in the hardscrabble town of Belleau can be life-threatening: transients often suddenly vanish from the dingy streets without a trace. Sixteen-year-old Polly Onasis suspects the king and his guards are the culprits behind these disappearances. Once she turns eighteen, she knows she will be forced into the city streets too, away from the safety of her foster home and family . . .
One morning, Polly wakes up to discover that her hair has turned from deep brown to brilliant violet. How? And why? She must keep herself hidden from the public, for fear of being noticed by the king's guards. But soon enough her eighteenth birthday is upon her, and she no longer has any way to hide herself. She runs into a mysterious stranger who seems to know all about Polly and the secrets which lie behind her hair. Polly's life is turned upside down as she is carried through the wonderful and the nightmarish, the dark alleyways of Belleau and the king's palace. Meanwhile, she must fight to protect her loved ones, and find out who she really is.
My Review:
The Violet Mage by Amelia love was a fantastic book. It has only two cons which is why it's four stars, but over-all was an amazing book. I thoroughly enjoyed it and absolutely loved the way she wrote the LGBTQ romance. Usually I am not a fan of LGBTQ romance books as they are hard to write. Amelia Love kept it interesting and made it a normal romance. It wasn't shoved in your face nor was it all about drama. It was simply normal, like how it should be portrayed. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend, especially to those looking for a book for pride month.
The plot was well written and extremely descriptive. I loved this idea and thought it was unique. As you all know I love when grammar is perfect and congrats to Amelia Love for having another book with amazing grammar! It is extremely important to have great or perfect grammar. Without the grammar being good it distracts from the story and can cause problems for certain readers.
Not everyone is bothered by grammar and that's perfectly okay!
I definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for a young adult fantasy with LGBTQ themes. Or even if you're looking for a good book that has fantasy and a well-written plot.
Pros:
Extremely Detailed
Unique Plot which is also well written
Attention holder
LGBTQ relationships that are well written. They are written in a way that many would enjoy.
Unique Characters
Unique Powers
Cons:
At times I did feel it was slightly slow, but it eventually picked back up again.
Could be confusing in some parts for younger readers.
