Agustina De Aragon by Gail Meath. 5 out of 5 stars. Historical. Romance. Based on a true story.
Hard-headed, strong female character. I recommend for anyone who's a fan of historical romance.

Summary:
Her story is so more than a tale of war, tremendous courage and loss. It is one of the greatest love stories in history.
Barcelona, Spain, 1803. Agustina Saragossa, the youngest daughter of a bladesmith, sneaks around the military barracks, yet not to snag a husband as everyone thinks. Stubborn, hot-tempered and fiercely devoted to her country, like her grandfather before her, she is far more interested in learning about the ensuing war between Britain and France than she is in the lazy, arrogant Spanish soldiers at the compound.
When Sergeant Juan Roca, a handsome officer with a troubled past, is relocated to the barracks, he is instantly struck by Agustina’s beauty and fiery spirit. Despite her heated rejections and open mistrust, he continues to pursue her relentlessly. Will he ever win her heart?
As the war progresses between their neighboring countries, Napoleon Bonaparte deviously orders the invasion of Spain, thinking it will be an easy task. Yet, Agustina and Juan join the fight, first as guerillas then soldiers, in their valiant effort to crush the enemy and regain the freedom of their country.
My Review:
I'm not usually a person who cries with books. I usually just get sad and continue on. This is the first book to ever actually make me bawl my eyes out. It was a fantastic story. I absolutely adored it. The fact that it's based on a true story makes it even better. I mean, we all have hope now. With it being based on a true story it really gives us an even deeper connection to the characters. It creates an almost deeper attraction too.
If you're like me, you'll go research Agustina de Aragon right after reading this book. She's one amazing lady and I feel this book truly captures this story. Plus it has one head-strong, stubborn woman. She became a professional officer of the Spanish Army. She was the only female officer in Wellington's army.
If that isn't inspirational, I don't know what is.
Not only is this story about an amazing woman. It is about an inspiring couple who even through the hardest of times, pushed through and carried on into an amazing life. Juan and Agustina are absolutely inspirational. One of the best couple's in actual history, if I do say so myself.
Pros:
Beautiful Romance. True and inspirational. Shows that even through hardest times it is possible to push through and come out on the other side.
Plot was really truthful and really helped put this war into perspective.
Character and the historical aspects truly draw you in even further.
Gail Meath's writing was one of beauty. It did wonders for understanding Agustina's story.
Tears. I mean..that's a compliment in and of itself.
